Enjoy Spring Skiing in Tahoe
Packing for a spring vacation in Lake Tahoe? Make sure to bring both T-shirts and sweaters. Temperatures may find you on the ski slopes in the morning and hiking beneath the sun throughout the afternoon.
While the spring is characteristically a slower season in Lake Tahoe, it’s revered by locals for its nearly deserted ski runs and thin crowds. Whether you want to spend the day on the ski slopes without the long waits or embark on a secluded hike, your spring Lake Tahoe vacation is sure to deliver.
HIT THE SKI SLOPES
Heavenly Mountain Resort is a must-see destination for the serious skier. Over 4,800 acres of off-the-grid terrain offer incredible views of Lake Tahoe — and allow you to ski two states in the same day. Here, you’ll find 34 miles of groomed cruises, 1,600-foot plunges in double-black diamond canyons, and incredible tree skiing.
And if you can’t get enough of the snow, consider nearby snowmobile adventures at Zephyr Cove Snowmobile Center or snowshoeing at Bijou Community Park.
OUTDOORS — BUT WITHOUT SKIING
If you want to enjoy a piece of the action but prefer not to ski, consider a ride on the Heavenly Gondola or the Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster, both located at Heavenly Mountain Resort.
If you’d rather avoid the ski slopes altogether, pack a bag and spend the day hiking. Emerald Bay State Park, carved by glaciers millions of years ago, rests along the southwest shore of Lake Tahoe. Known for its colorful granite and stunning panoramic views, this park is home to exciting hiking trails and must-see attractions, such as Vikingsholm, a historic home showcasing Scandinavian architecture.
Spring is the ideal season to catch a glimpse of both Cascade Falls and Eagle Falls in this area. Weather can vary, so pack boots made to traverse both snow and forest trails. And after a day of hiking, rejuvenate sore muscles in one of the Tahoe Basin’s signature hot springs.
